Vorige week werd aangekondigd dat de Red Bull Music Academy dit jaar plaats vindt in New Yorkvan 30 september tot 2 november. Artiesten zoals Katy B, Jamie Woon, Camo & Krooked, Hudson Mohawke, Canblaster, Aloe Blacc, Flying Lotus en ook San Soda, Compuphonic en Fredo zijn gedurende de laatste 13 jaar al ' afgestudeerd' van deze academy. Ze kregen 'les' van mensen als Mark Ronson, Tony Visconti, James Holden, MF Doom, A-Trak, Morton Subotnick, Erykah Badu, Benga, M.I.A. en Front 242 in wereldsteden Berlijn, Londen, Sao Paolo, Seattle, Melbourne en Toronto.

We zijn ook trots om aan te kondigen dat het allereerste Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp zal gehouden worden in Antwerpen van 21 tot 24 maart. De Red Bull Music Academy selecteerde zeventien Belgische producers en muzikanten voor dit unieke event in Trix, Antwerpen. Alle deelnemers zullen lezingen kunnen bijwonen van 3 internationaal gerenommeerde producers/artiesten en ze zullen met hen en nog 3 ervaren Belgische producers kunnen samenwerken in de studio.

Young Guru: Artists need their people. Gimel “Young Guru” Keaton is Jay-Z’s people. When the rap-conquering emcee and world-conquering mogul steps into the booth (as he continues to do, despite frequent retirement threats), Young Guru is outside, at the board, making sure Hova sounds good. Since 1999 — a staggering twelve years — this has been how it's done. Along the way, Guru has recorded pretty much every other A-list rapper. Some say he has the Midas touch.
Addison Groove: 2010's anthem 'Footcrab' was certainly no fluke. While reflecting Chicago's frenetic juke rhythms back on themselves through a slower London lens might seem a logical mutation to ravers now, it was the product of years steeped in dubby Brizzle marinades. Now with the rep of a rhythmic code-breaker, Addison Groove has unlocked the door to his own tempo blueprint. And did we mention he also help shape the sound of Bristol dubstep under his Headhunter moniker?
Mala: Mala is one half of Digital Mystikz: South London's finest purveyors of meditational bass weight. Being pioneers of the thriving dubstep scene, producers, DJs as well as label owners and promoters, they unleash a dense concentration of dubwise good vibrations that would make Jah Shaka and Aba Shanti equally proud. Being longtime friends from South London, Mala and Coki began with a shared love of jungle, dub, roots reggae, garage and house. Together they began forming their own distinct styles of music. Championed at the infamous 'Forward' nights, their 'Pathwayz' (on Big Apple) and distinctive, fresh music like Mala's 'Neverland', 'Anti War Dub' or Coki’s 'Stuck' and 'Shattered', began raining down on unsuspecting Londoners and the rest of the world in no time. It goes how it goes, and the Mystikz' own label DMZ is kind of a flagship now and has become a figurehead imprint for this thing called dubstep.
San Soda: Effervescent and refreshing, San Soda's tracks have already caused a stir with discerning house DJs around the globe, dropping a series of splendid solo 12"s as well as under his FCL moniker alongide We Play House label head honcho Red D. With an ear for deep house, soulful techno and everything in between, his tracks are pure sonic heart-lifters, and it's no problem for this Belgian soundboy to construct the kind of live club gig that will demolish everyone on the dance floor. As well as hosting his own weekly radio show, he plays across the board at regular parties across Europe. Sobriety was never a serious ambition, but when the soda tastes this good, who's complaining?
